Philosophically, I believe that good ideas should be recognized on their own, not because they came from someone well known. To this end, I built a chrome extension called tobitabi that hides usernames from various websites, so I can better evaluate the content of the comments without being prejudiced by the author.

It works by using CSS selectors to find usernames on websites and replacing them with a random colorstrip. So far, I have it running on reddit, github, facebook and hackernews. I’ve been using it for over 3 years and rarely turn it off. I also used adblock filters to hide profile pictures.

I’m not sure what my ultimate goal is, but at least it has a pleasing effect to my eye.
